Frequently Asked Questions
-
What happens if it rains the day of my service?Depending upon the severity of the rain, certain services may still be able to be performed. Should our service manager and crew determine that weather conditions dictate rescheduling, you will be notified. The safety of our employees and your property are foremost in our minds.
-
Can I add services at the time of my initial service?Yes. Our technicians can answer any questions, provide information or estimates, and perform the work the same day in many cases. For those added services that we cannot complete that day, our office will provide available dates for scheduling.
-
Do you work on Weekends?Weekends are not part of our typical schedule, however, if you request a Saturday, we can check with our crew to see if anyone is available to work that day.
-
May I request a specific time?We are generally able to meet requests for either morning or afternoon appointments. However, our schedule is largely determined by the size and location of the jobs on that specific day, so we are unable to guarantee any specific times. We build our schedule two days in advance and send a reminder email to you with the appointment time. If that time is not convenient, let us know, and we can find another time or day that works better for you.
-
What time will the work crew arrive? You’ll be given an estimated arrival time when you schedule the appointment. Please note that unless you are the first appointment of the day, we cannot guarantee the arrival time. If you would like, we can have a crew member call you when they are on their way.
-
Can you move furniture in preparation for your services? For liability reasons, employee safety, your safety and that of your belongings, we ask that all furniture be moved out of work areas before we arrive. We can cover up furniture, valuables, plants, etc., with plastic. In those cases where we must move furniture, it is done with the complete understanding that Gilligan's Power Washing is not liable/responsible for any damages. We will not under any circumstances move anything over 100 lbs.
-
If I have used your services in the past, are you able to access that information in your system and provide the same service?Yes, we keep the history of all of our jobs and can look up the services that were previously performed for you. We cannot guarantee that pricing will be the same, so please request an updated quote on the services you are looking for.
-
Do you use my water?Yes we do, but it should not impact your utility bills in any significant way.
-
Do I need to be present when the work is being done? No, you do not need to be at the property for any exterior work. We will contact you during the job if we have any questions, and leave a work order form at the property upon job completion. If no one will be home at the time of cleaning (house washing, roof washing) we do ask that any exterior outlets are turned off at the breaker box for the safety of our staff and your property.
-
What areas do you service? We service Bergen County New Jersey and surrounding areas.
-
Do I need to be home for an on-site estimate? No, in most cases our on-site estimators can inspect and measure everything they need from the outside of the home or business. We just ask that gates be unlocked, pets be inside, and that we have permission to be on the property. Your complete estimate can be left on-site or emailed depending on your preference.
-
Do you give free estimates?Yes, we do. Simply click the FREE ESTIMATE button at the top of any web page to request your estimate.
-
Won't Pressure Washing waste a lot of water?A pressure washing unit can use as much as four gallons of water a minute. If you don’t know what you’re doing, you can waste a lot of that water. Our professionals are trained to be conservative with the water, and we use only eco-friendly cleaning products to keep your home and the area around it safe.
-
Why shouldn't i just buy a Pressure Washer? It doesn’t make financial or practical sense to purchase a machine that will take up precious storage space, sit idle for long periods of time, and require ongoing periodic maintenance. You’d be devoting your rare free time tackling pressure washing tasks when you could be spending it with family and friends. At Gilligan's Power Washing, we have the expertise and the latest professional-grade equipment and products to do the job for you – conveniently and easily.
-
Why should I hire a professional to do pressure washing when I can do it myself?Using a pressure washer isn’t as easy as it may seem. Even the smallest machine is intense and powerful, so not using it correctly could cause damage to your home or property, or even worse, could cause personal injury. If you’re not a big person or a strong person, it can overtake you quickly, almost like a jackhammer would. It’s not a one-size-fits-all job in that different techniques or levels of pressure are required depending upon the surface being cleaned. Our fully insured and highly skilled specialists know the right pressure, water temperature, and cleaning products for any given application.
-
Can you repair gutters? For liability reasons, we try to avoid doing repairs other than simple reattachments or sealing certain areas. We would be happy to provide you with referrals for companies who specialize in this area.
-
We prefer not to have our gutters blown clean. What process do you use?We inspect gutters for any separation from the home, disconnected downspouts, holes, or structural compromises and inform you. We hand scoop or use our vacuum system to remove debris from gutters, and water flush or snake gutters and downspouts to ensure all is running smoothly and clog-free. All debris is bagged and placed by the curb.
-
Can you clean my gutters if I have gutter guards?Yes, most gutter guards can be removed and reinstalled for an additional charge. If you’d rather they not be reinstalled, we ask that you take responsibility for their disposal. Gutter guards that can not be removed can be flushed to move any sitting debris and make sure they are flowing properly.
-
Do I need to do anything to prepare for your window cleaning services? We ask that the window screens are removed before our arrival. Most window screens can only be removed from the interior of the home due to a locking system on the inside of the screens. Our technicians do not enter our clients properties.
-
Are you able to reach windows that are multiple stories high?We use ladders whenever possible, but utilize our purified water-fed pole system to access higher windows when it doesn’t compromise the quality of our work. The pole system allows our technicians to reach windows multiple stories high from the ground.
-
In addition to the windows, can you also clean the frames, sills, tracks and screens?Yes, we offer different cleaning packages that encompass every aspect of your windows.
-
How long does it take to clean my windows? It is based on the type, size and number of windows, and what you want completed. We can provide an estimated time frame for completion once we prepare a quote.
-
Must I get both the exterior and interior windows cleaned? We only clean exterior windows at this time.
-
Will the products you use damage my shingles? Our process follows the guidelines as established by the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association and the Roof Cleaning Institute of America. Our professional service crews utilize environmentally friendly products that safely and effectively clean and sanitize without causing damage.
-
Why should I have my roof professionally cleaned when I can climb up and do it myself?Saving a few dollars is certainly not worth risking your safety or your life. Scaling a ladder several stories high and navigating on a roof is quite dangerous and requires an experienced and trained professional. The algae, moss and lichen buildup on the roof’s surface make it slippery, not to mention the slant of the roof. Our fully insured technicians follow all OSHA safety guidelines and utilize proper safety gear.
-
Why should I have my roof cleaned?Over time, mold, algae, moss and lichen can grow on your roof’s surface, causing staining and, ultimately, deterioration and damage. When left unaddressed, this shortens your roof’s lifespan, requires premature repair or replacement, and increases energy costs. Also, more and more insurance companies are requiring roof cleaning as a condition of continuing coverage.
-
Why do you use soft washing rather than pressure washing to clean roofs? The force of pressure washing is too much for roof surfaces and can cause damage to shingles and underlying materials, strip paint, blast window seals, or push water behind siding or into an attic. Soft washing is the safe, gentle, yet very effective alternative for cleaning roofs. It utilizes garden hose pressure and biodegradable soaps to clean and sanitize and help extend the life of your roof.
-
If I do not like the color after the lights are installed, is there a fee?Yes, there is a fee to redo the lights.
-
Can you store the lights for me?Yes. Our estimated cost includes storing the lights for you.
-
Can we keep the lights?Yes, but there is an additional fee for you to keep them. We will not maintain them nor take them down at the end of the season.
-
Is there a fee to repair or replace non-working lights? When using our lights, we take care of all repairs and maintenance once the lights are up at no charge to you. We do not maintain nor repair customer-owned lights.
-
Do you hang customer-provided lights? No, we do not install customer-owned lights. We cannot guarantee that the bulbs or electrical cord/strands are in working order. Gilligan's Power Washing installs professional-grade LED bulbs, and our electrical socket wire is checked before installation to prevent shorts.
